Whether you are saved or not, this information will help you to understand the meaning of salvation.  We pray that as you read it, you will find the peace of God which comes from the forgiveness of sins.  Here is how all people may be saved and live the Christian life.  Once we are saved, our duty is to go and tell others.  2 Timothy 2:2 says, “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will be qualified to teach others.”

H ow can you be saved?

Some houses have many steps leading up to the door. In the same way there are seven steps leaving up to salvation. You must not leave any of these steps out but take one step at a time.

1. R ealise that you are a sinner.
Romans 3:10 says,"There is no one righteous, no not one." In Matthew 9:13 Jesus says, "I am not come to call the righteous to repentance but the sinners."

2. Realise that you cannot save yourself.
Being baptised, joining a church, giving money, living a good life - these things can never save you. Ephesians 2:8-9 says,"For by grace we are saved - not of works, lest any man should boast."

3. Believe that Jesus is the only one who can save you from your sins.
John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him shall be saved."

4. Believe that Jesus died on a cross to pay the price of your sin.
I  will tell you a story. Say you are in front of the magistrate. You have been fined R10 for riding your bicycle without a light. You have not got the money, but a friend stands up and pays your fine, and you are set free. Now, Jesus is your friend. You could not pay the penalty for your sins, but Jesus came down to earth, died on a cross and shed His blood to pay for your sins.
1 Peter 2:24 says, "He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live to righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed.

5. Repent of your sins and ask Jesus to come into your heart.
To repent means to tell God that you know that you are a sinner and to ask God to forgive you. It means to leave your sinful life and follow Jesus every day. This you must do. Romans 10:10 says, "With the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." If you have done this, you are saved.

6. Turn away from your old sinful life.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "If any many be in Christ he is a new creature, behold all things are become new."

7. Make Jesus Lord of your life.
Now that you are a Christian, serve Jesus every day. Ask Him to help you. In Matthew 4:10 Jesus says, "It is written, worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.


How can I know that I am a Christian?

If you have taken these steps to salvation, and you are sure that these steps are what the Bible says, then read 1 John 5:13: "These things have I written to you that you may know that you have eternal life." This is not just a hope - you may know for certain.

Now, there are seven things which will help you live for Jesus.

1. Leave your old sinful life. Have nothing more to do with it, and ask God to help you.

3. Pray every day - early morning if possible.
   Psalm 37:5 says, "Commit thy way to the Lord, trust in Him, and He will bring it to pass."
4. Tell others you are saved and help them to know Jesus.
5. Choose a church which preaches the way of salvation and go a least every week.
6. Be baptised in water. When you are completely covered in water, by faith believe that your life is buried with Christ. As you come up out of the water, by faith believe that you are rising again with Christ into a new life. Jesus was baptised, and we should follow Him. Matthew 3:16 says, "And Jesus, when He was baptised, went up out of the water."
7. Seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Peter says in Acts 2:39, "The promise is unto you and to them that are afar off, as many as God calls out of sin."
